Mukurthi National Park
A part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, Mukurthi National Park was established to preserve the endangered Nilgiri Tahr species. It is the first Biosphere Reserve in India and has been recognized by the UNESCO as World Heritage Site.
Mukurthi National Park is a home for many mammals like Nilgiri Tahr, Bengal Tiger,Indian Elephant, Leopard, Sambar deer. Mukurthi National park is preferred as the best trekking place in South India. To visit this park, you need to get prior permission from the Forest Department of Tamil Nadu which maintains the park.
