Cuddalore City

Cuddalore is a pretty small district in Tamil Nadu having Bay of Bengal as its border on east. The smell of dried fish and the humid air sets this places as the best example of Indian coastal land. Though being a small district it has some noteworthy places also, to spend our leisure time.

Geography :

Cuddalore spills over an area of 3,564 Km2. To the north of Cuddalore is the Villupuram district and to the east is the Bay of Bengal and is intervened by two rivers Gadilam and Pennaiyar.
The Climate is same as most of the cities in Tamil range from 36°C – 28°C. The Rainfall in moderate here.

Places to Visit:

Chidambaram Nataraja Temple : Chidambaram is a town in Cuddalore and is the house of the famous Nataraja temple. This temple has lots of history and legends. The prime deity is Lord Shiva who is in a dancing posture. The Architecture of this temple is greatly admired by all and is considered to be one of the must visit temples in India.
Silver Beach : A 2 km journey will lead to the sublime Silver Sea. Unlike the Chennai beaches, this beach has its beauty in its tranquillity. This calm Sea takes great pride in being the second longest beach on the Coromandel Coast.
Pichavaram Mangrove : Between Vellar and Coleroon estuaries is the world second largest mangrove forest called ‘the Pichavaram mangrove Forest’. It is a spectacular sight to see the lush trees arousing out of the water and spreading their green umbrellas over the sea. This forest is a safe haven for lots of endangered species and its rare beauty attracts many tourists.

Travel Mode:

Air : There is no airport, the nearest airport is in Chennai from where you have to take a bus or taxi to reach this district.
Bus : There are lots of local travels from all cities to Cuddalore, it will take 4 hours to reach this city from Chennai via ECR road.
Train : Trains are available from Chennai, Madurai and Trichy. It is a 5 to 6 hours journey by trains.
